Bellevue Beach - Photographer, Jesper Hedemann

Lifeguard Tower designed by Arne Jacobsen.

Bellevue Strand, the 700 meter-long beach resort located north of Copenhagen, was developed in the 1930s in cooperation with one of the greatest and most talented architects of recent times, Arne Jacobsen.

In 1932 following a competition against two other architects, Jacobsen won the bid to design the bathing cabins, kiosks, tickets, staff uniforms and the lifeguard towers at Bellevue. The characteristic blue-striped lifeguard towers have since become a local architectural icon.

The strong light behind the clouds makes the picture incredibly vivid.
